Which Cloud Services does Tailpipe cover?

Currently, Tailpipe only supports AWS.

AWS offers a wide variety of different cloud services, from compute processing, to database storage, to communications, to generative AI. At present, Tailpipe supports emissions calculations for 22 AWS services, with 6 more in development.

In Scope

Tailpipe can calculate the emissions of the following nine AWS services:

ServiceDescription
Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) A virtual machine platform for hosting compute workloads.
Simple Storage Service (S3) A data storage and retrieval service.
Relational Database Service (RDS) A managed service for operating relational databases in the cloud.
Elastic Block Store (EBS) A cloud-based storage service for use alongside EC2 instances.
Data TransferMigration of data between AWS services and servers.
Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) AWS’ platform for Kubernetes, an open-source container orchestration system.
Elastic Container Service (ECS) AWS’ own container orchestration system.
Lambda A serverless compute service.
Fargate A serverless container service.

In Scope – Storage Only

Tailpipe can also calculate the emissions generated by a customer’s use of storage within the following 13 AWS services. Tailpipe cannot calculate the emissions of the underlying hardware utilization of these services, because AWS does not document the hardware used. However, the emissions of storage utilization can be calculated, based on a calculation of the power consumption per GB of storage.

ServiceDescription
AmazonMQ A managed message broker service.
Backup An automated data protection service.
CloudWatch   A monitoring and management software for AWS services.
CodeArtifact A software package management service.
CostExplorer A tool for visualizing AWS spend.
Database Migration Service A data migration service to and from AWS.
DynamoDB A serverless NoSQL database service.
Elastic File System A cloud-based file storage service.
File Server (FSx)A managed file storage service that provides Windows file systems in the cloud.
Lightsail A virtual private server management system.
Prometheus A monitoring and time series database that scrapes endpoints.
RekognitionA cloud-based image and video analysis service.
Timestream A database service that stores and analyzes time-series data.

In Progress

Tailpipe is currently developing full coverage emissions calculations for the following six AWS services:

ServiceDescription
OpenSearch An open-source search and analytics engine.
ElastiCache A web application performance improvement service.
SageMaker A machine learning training and deployment service.
AppStream A streaming service for access to desktop applications.
RedShift A cloud-based data warehouse.
Amazon BedrockA service for building generative AI applications.
